Answer: How often you change your filter depends on the size and grade of the filter.  A one-inch filter should be changed every three months or so, while five-inch filters only need replacing every 9-12 months.

What is the MERV rating of my filter mean?

Answer: MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It is a standard scale from 1 to 20 that measures how well a furnace or HVAC filter traps tiny particles from the air.  Our most common filters are the MERV11, which is a good filter for most homes, and the MERV16, which provides hospital-grade filtration.  It is preferred by customers with allergies or asthma.

When should I consider replacing my system instead of repairing?

Answer: A life expectancy for a heat pump or air conditioner is roughly 10-15, while a furnace is typically 15-20 years.  If your system is near the end of its lifespan and it is starting to need frequent repairs, it might be time to consider a replacement, especially if they are major components such as a compressor or indoor coil that fail.
